ONE BIG WASTE OF TIME but that is my opinion as is the following commentary:
"ZERO SERVICE" COULD BE THEIR MOTTO
On Monday I took a day off from work to be home for repair or installation of new garage door opener. My door stopped working about five days earlier. While I waited for them to arrive I cleared a work area under the opener. Aluminum Door & Screen Co. Sent out an employee who either did not want work or had no idea what he was doing. HE STARTED MAKING EXCUSES RIGHT AWAY saying a new ½ horsepower motor would not handle the weight of the door. I had discuss door, the weigh, horsepower, and current opener with the office when the appointment was booked. I explained to the employee in standing my garage, the current opener was ½ horsepower and worked for the past 17 years. He said, “they were made better back then and the new ones were not as good.” He said it was going to take a long time and he needed to call in and cancel his other jobs.
Next he looked at the springs. I explained one was replaced several years ago and I realized after it was installed it was not stretched the same.. Then he decided to check the door and wanted me to do a manual release of the door. I am not a garage door mechanic so it seemed strange that he wanted me to do this. I explained, “I do not know how. “ HE BECAME IRRITATED and put out by my answer. He went to disengage the door, claiming it may come crashing down, but he TOOK NO PRECAUTIONS like placing a ladder to stop the “crashing down”. I went and held the door to stop it from crashing.
Then he said I needed to move “this” as he waved his arm in a sweeping motion and went to his truck to get tools. I again asked what needed to be moved and HE AGAIN BECAME AGITATED. And again was not specific. I said what, this? and pointed to different areas. Then said, please be specific. He said, “I’ll show you specific” picked his tools and walked to the truck. I asked him what was his problem, he became very rude, so I became very rude back. He made a veiled threat, got in his truck and drove off.
I immediately called the company asking to send someone else. They said they could not send any else until Friday. I asked to speak to the owner. HE WAS NOT IN. They said he would be in Wednesday. I tried to open the Garage Door and found it would not open. I called Aluminum Door & Screen. It was 5:05PM and they were closed I left a message about the door not opening. THEY DID NOT CALL BACK. On Wednesday I called Aluminum Door & Screen Co. and asked for the owner. THEY SAID HE WAS NOT IN. I asked they send out someone to correct the problem their employee caused. The woman on the phone claimed there employee said I disengage the door so THEY REFUSED TO COME OUT. I called several more times trying to contact THE OWNER WAS WAS NEVER AVAILABLE AND NEVER RETURNED ANY OF MY CALLS.
I called a DIFFERENT Garage Door company. It took the man roughly three minutes to locate and repair what was nothing more than a slipped chain. Nothing had to be moved, nothing had to be replaced to make the door work. Once the door started to work and we opened it and closed a few times, a spring broke. It was replaced and has worked just fine ever since.
