I finally found a mod company with a squeaky clean record! What a breath of fresh air. I've checked out other mod co's on the BBB and usually find a rating of 'F'! When I stopped by their office with copies of various documents I was pleasantly surprised, a very nice prefessional office with everyone in a suit and tie, very reassuring. I was a few weeks away from getting a notice of default and they stopped it! After the mod my payments went from 3k to $1,200.00, interest rate went from 8% to 4.625 and the past due payments were added to the back of the loan and I was brought current. I do have a 'late' on my credit report but that was my fault, but we still have our home and our credit didn't get trashed by a foreclosure and our payments are now very affordable.
