Review 10/30/2011

May 2011 Took my wedding ring to The Jewelry Exchange (TJE) in Phoenix 12644 N. 28th Drive 85092 ph# 602-548-7700 because there was a missing small diamond. I dealt with Floyd Ireland who made this problem out to be my fault. Fine. I was quoted a price for the repair and told them to fix it. After the repair the ring was returned to my jewelry box where it sat until October 19, 2011 when I decided I want to upgrade the center stone. Took the ring to another jeweler FIRST to get an estimate. They inspected the piece and told me it looked in great shape, gave me an estimate for the upgrade and I left. Next I took it to TJE at the above address, Dealt then with a lady associate...told her what I wanted. She said she needed to evaluate my jewelry and took it out of my sight. I left with a quote for an upgrade of the center diamond and went to KAY Jewelers in Glendale to get my next quote. At that store Monique needed to do the same examination of the piece AND she offered to clean it. After staying IN SIGHT for the examination, Monique came back to me and showed me a loose diamond that should be repaired. KAY Jeweler found it...they get to fix it. During the repair I returned to TJE with questions about how to make the prongs more sturdy. I was referred to the manager whose name I don't even want to remember. I asked about options for my wedding ring. This manager not only talked around the question but talked TO me like I was born last night. I wanted to give this establishment the benefit of the doubt. After the repair at KAY Jeweler I returned to TJE with my ring and AGAIN dealt with Floyd Ireland. The same question was asked about strengthening the prongs. AGAIN I was talked to (and not with) like I was born last night...and that I wanted stronger prongs to protect a bigger diamond could not be done OR there would be a BIG cost. My opinion to leave this establishment and never return IS a good one.
TJE will ONLY give you 80% value of your diamond in trade. My estimates from other diamond stores value my big diamond at MORE than the value we paid for it to begin with.
TJE will NEVER refund your cash, even in the first 30 days after purchase. What you will get is store credit and be force to spend that on more of their poor customer service and low quality craftsmanship.
TJE will never take responsibility for their poor workmanship. Accept that their faux pas WILL be your fault.
NEVER let them take your piece out of your sight unless you want to pay for something that was caused by them.
PLEASE read the reviews of this establishment at bbb.org then make your own decisions about spending your expendable cash there. If you want to be treated like you were born last night, if you want to get talked TO and not with, appreciate getting the run around then by all mean throw your cash down this drain. You will NEVER see it again.
