I hired and signed an contract with Stephan H. Laswson to purchase and replace a floor furnace. I gave him a deposit check for the furnace for $922.53 to purchase a floor furnace he quoted with through a vendor, he cashed it right away. After cashing, he showed up days later and removed siding from the subject property, then left. Since then, he has abandoned the job and kept my money. He screens his calls and avoids answering my calls. He will pick up if I call from a different line then invent excuses why he hasn't completed the job. It's been almost 5 months. I confirmed with the furnace vendor he never purchased the floor furnace. When we last spoke 4 weeks ago, he was to refund me my money but never followed through as he agreed. He is full of excuses for not executing on the contract as agreed. It is apparent to me he from this experience that he is a con artist and a thief. I am pursuing him in small claims court and am in process of completing a complaint with the California Contractors State Board.
