The city of LA housing department busted me for having a deck on my beach house that was not permitted. I bought this beach house 20 years ago and the deck was there when I bought it. No one ever had a clue this deck was not permitted. I have been repeatedly inspected by LAHD every year or two and have been renting out the duplex without a problem. Last year, LAHD cited me with a criminal complaint that this deck was illegal.
Long story short: Thanks to Jose Gutierrez and his staff at Omni Design Studio, I did not go "postal" with the LAHD. Omni did EVERYTHING. Omni Design Studio found the least expensive solution to legalizing the structure by taking advantage of everything available and just making it work. The city is off my back, and I an asking Jose Gutierrez to design the next beach house upgrade and additions in Playa Del Rey for me.
